How Many WordPress Plugins Are There?

The size and shape of the WordPress.org plugin directory, counted from a full scan of every listed plugin.

A snapshot of every plugin in the WordPress.org directory · refreshed 2026-11-05

There are 74,883 free WordPress plugins in the official WordPress.org plugin directory, as of November 5, 2026. Just 42,924 of them (57%) have been updated in the last two years. Unlike themes, WordPress.org keeps the stale ones listed and installable, so roughly half of everything you can search is unmaintained code.
